Roles & Responsibilities
Lead the Department & Drive Team Performance
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Systems Design department, including task assignment, resource planning, and workload balancing.
- Maintain oversight of the design queue, prioritizing projects based on complexity, due dates, and client urgency.
- Monitor departmental deliverables, ensuring milestones are met and that documentation is delivered accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Sales, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to streamline workflows and improve overall design efficiency.
Realize Client Objectives
- Work directly with prospects and clients—virtually and in-person—to uncover project goals, validate budgets, and translate needs into innovative system designs.
- Design low-voltage technology systems and subsystems from concept through execution, including AV, Security, IT/Data, and Converged Networks.
- Produce detailed documentation such as functional narratives, signal flow diagrams, bill of materials, RCP plans, and design packages.
- Present our design/build capabilities to clients, articulating the value and efficiency of our model.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to value-engineer solutions that meet client expectations and budget constraints.
Support Company Growth
- Develop innovative system designs that support both new and existing client relationships.
- Stay current on emerging technologies across all low-voltage disciplines and integrate relevant solutions into your work.
- Contribute to company standards by developing and documenting design protocols and SOPs.
- Lead the preparation of internal and external deliverables including design documentation, submittal packages, and kickoff materials.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure alignment with client objectives and internal quality standards.
Increase Profit Margins
- Ensure all scopes are tightly defined to minimize costly change orders and design-related margin erosion.
- Account for procurement timelines and material cost fluctuations to manage client expectations and design feasibility.
- Collaborate with estimating, sales, and engineering to reinforce the importance of a well-scoped, high-quality design/build approach.
Drive Client Retention & Referrals
- Build long-term relationships with clients and industry partners.
- Act as a trusted design resource post-project, creating new opportunities for future work and referrals.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in designing low-voltage systems
- Strong background with electronic security systems (e.g., Avigilon, Axis, Genetec, Brivo), commercial AV systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, QSC), and general IT infrastructure (e.g., switches, firewalls, APs)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit is REQUIRED
- Experience in department/team leadership and project workflow management preferred
- Strong understanding of low-voltage principles and systems integration best practices
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Adept at managing multiple priorities, queues, and deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Resilient and resourceful in addressing supply chain challenges and technology shifts
- Confident presenter and collaborative team player
